✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Set & Setting sources books from community donations for used books, Book Depot for new-ish books, & from Ingram Content Group for new books.

  • I sell a mixed stock of used, new-ish, and new books at different price points. Used books are the cheapest ranging from $5 for mass-market paperbacks to $9 for hardbacks. Since my used stock is donated or purchased from library sales or similar sales, the price reflects the cost of materials & overhead for this site.

My new-ish books come from Book Depot which is a website that sells books that have been cosmetically damaged or were overstock from stores like Target, Walmart, & Barnes and Noble. These books range from $8.50-$12 and the price reflects the amount I paid for the title + the cost of materials and overhead as mentioned above.

New books are sourced from Ingram Content Group which is where a significant portion of the books at your local bookstores are coming from. I purchase the titles at a discounted rate and am able to sell them at SRP (suggest retail price). These books are priced at whatever the SRP from the publisher is.

  • This is not a Pango Books type shop despite being online. Set & Setting is a bookstore with a slightly different model and as such I am a bookseller like any other. It is impossible for booksellers to read every book available in store. While I have not read every book I sell, I do try my best to curate my selection.

  • Allow me to be real with y’all, the best part of owning a bookstore is getting to curate the selection. I buy books I recognize, books that I’ve heard good things about, books that are donated so long as they’re not problematic, and books that I have read, loved, and cried over.

The short answer: I focus on literary fiction, books from a diversity of backgrounds, and nonfiction books that are fun or, in my opinion, required reading.

  • Yes! But… only for in-person shoppers. Sorry!

I run this business through a debit card so as much as I’d love to order everyone the books they want, I only have so much disposable income. If you’re shopping in person, ask me about ordering!

Shopping from out of state? 1. Thank you for choosing me 🥹 You can order any title you like & still support my shop through bookshop.org!

  • Set & Setting is located in an art gallery space, there is not always someone here to make sure no one comes in and takes the art off the wall. When the gallery is open to the public I am open to the public. It’s not forever, just for now! You can hop online 24/7 and pick-up in store if you’re local!
