About:

Set & Setting started with a teenage girl’s dream to one day own a bookstore. When she turned 26 she decided it was time to give it a shot. The shop is owned by Kaleigh Basso who runs a one-woman show from curation to fulfillment to marketing.

Set & Setting is an online bookstore with big aspirations. Not only does it hope to provide an accessible option for those who don’t have access to indie bookstores or good thrift spots, it also hopes to compete with online retailers run by billionaires with dick rockets.

Core Values:

  • When we speak of accessibility we’re not only talking about affordability.

Set & Setting being an online store means that you don’t need to be nearby to support an indie bookstore. Our prices are competitive with amazon and half-priced books even for newer titles to encourage supporting a small business.

The majority of our selection of books is dependent on what is donated or what can be found on thrift or wholesale. This enables us to keep our prices low and serve a wide base of book lovers.

  • Rugged & hyper-individualism has been destroying our planet, the way we interact with each other, and our spirits for the entirety of history.

To put community at the core of our business model means creating a safe space for any and all, making decisions based on community needs & desires, and moving with a deep love for people and this place we inhabit.

Community is how we move forward.

  • If I may break the fourth wall for a moment, I feel like this one is pretty self-explanatory. I’ve never been good at lying or moving in secret. If you have any questions about business practices or are just curious about my views on something, all you have to do is ask.

I want you to feel like spending your money in my shop is aligned with your values and if it’s not then you can make an informed decision.

  • Set & Setting puts compassion at our core because to be honest, the world is a shit hole and people deserve to feel cared for.

Set & Setting will never stock books written by or containing hateful, harmful, or problematic content. However, this shop is still run by a human and therefore mistakes will be made and things will probably be missed. If you find a title that is harmful, please let us know immediately and it will be removed from the site.

Who runs this place anyway?
